This 1951 Mercedes 170 was shipped to the USA in 1994 and has been stored in the garage since. The car has a paint job from 1986 and has not had any work since. There are places the paint is chipped and there are some bubbles etc. The front right fender has some damage that has been repaired with bondo from before I bought it. The Interior is pretty decent, no tears in the headliner and other details of the interior are as original. I don’t know how the seats are under the sheepskin covers. Speedometer reads in Kilometers and the Odometer reads 18411. I cannot verify the car's exact mileage.
It is missing the clock from the dashboard but the radio is there, powers up, but does not work. Overhead light works. Some electrical switches do not work, for example the wipers, and the cable pulls for the heat etc. Headlights, tail lights, horn ring controlled blinkers all work as does the horn.
The gas tank is rusty inside and leaks. Sometimes the car needs a shot of starter spray to fire up. The carburetor needs float valve attention as the car floods when sitting or at idle. Starter cranks fine with the new 6 volt battery. The brakes are not working as the wheel cylinders apparently need freeing, but the master cylinder seems to hold pressure. Three tires hold air, but one tire will go flat in about 4 months. Tire tread is worn. Spare tire mounted in trunk lid does not hold air. Frame and undercarriage is in very good condition with little signs of rust problems, as are the floors. The car has almost all details as original. The sale includes NOS exhaust system parts and a Catalog of Mercedes parts. (Unknown if supplier is still in business. The current exhaust system is in fine condition.)
