1984 VW Vanagon Westfalia Camper GL model. It has been very well taken care of by the previous owner and myself.
The previous owner and myself have always kept this Westy garaged.
I have a thick folder of all maintenance, repairs from the previous owner and myself.
All original, Assuan Brown, absolutely no rust, no rust around any of the windows or chassis( look at all the close up pictures that I have included). I had it fully detailed inside and out. I usually do full paint restoration on my restorations, but the original paint is in really nice shape so I decided to go this route. The paint is only original once in its life.
I replaced the ugly steel original bumpers with the late model fiberglass bumpers, non floppy side mirrors from a late model Vanagon. All glass was removed to get a really nice finish. Bumpers were taken apart and refinished to perfection. I do prefer this set up on all my Westys , it looks much better and has a more modern look.
Any scratches or paint chips over the years have been touched up.
The entire chassis has been pressure washed, so it is all clean underside. Previous owner had the entire chassis undercoated, not the prettiest thing to look at but it helped with any rust or corrosion since there are none on underside of the chassis( see pictures)
I pulled everything off of the engine. metal coolant lines, all the intake runners, throttle body, engine mount, valve covers, mustache engine brace, full exhaust from a 2.1 later model van, all engine tins was sent out for sandblasting and refinished . Air conditioner and mounting bracket was removed. This is how I go through all my restorations.
The engine still runs great, it has not one single spot of oil leak anywhere, this is pretty amazing even for me to see. I adjusted the valves and put on the refinished valve covers along with valve cover gaskets. No leaks.
K/N reusable high flow engine air filter, just cleaned and reoiled.
The entire clutch and pressure plate, throw out bearing are all in good shape. The entire engine block has been thoroughly cleaned. I had all 4 fuel injectors checked and all are in good shape, all new German fuel lines and new oeticker clamps. All 4 new intake boots. New inner and outer fuel injector seals, new throttle body seal. Throttle body and MAF body was thoroughly cleaned.
New NGK spark plugs
New Spark plug wires
New Bosch distributor cap with self grounded cap
New Bosch rotor
New Bosch coil
New valve cover gaskets
New intake manifold gaskets
All engine exhaust gaskets are brand new, along with all new nuts and bolts
Brand new motor mounts, 4 made by ( Meyle)
New engine oil and filter change
New vacuum lines, all made in Germany
New genuine VW speedometer cable
Rear brakes, new Zimmerman E coated drums, new Ate wheels cylinders, new Meyle brake hoses. New brake shoes.
Rear wheel bearings have no play in them, no noise, no leaks. They are still in good condition.
I replaced the original horn with an airhorn.
Wheels are from a Mercedes CLK, Forged 16 inch alloys that I had fully powdercoated for easy maintenance and they look great. I paid $600 just for the wheels.
Brand new lug nuts and bolts.
Brand new lug wrench
Spare tire was purchased in 2021, it's literally brand new.
The original gas tank was showing its age. I decided to replace the entire gas tank, the fuel sending unit and all the breather hoses, new Oetiker clamps and seals. This was a big job and it was done right the first time. I even repainted the 2 gas tank brackets. Of course
Fuel filter also brand new, Bosch brand.
I dismantled the entire Manchester propane tank and sent it out to powdercoating, since the original was painted and they always rust on the outside and look horrible. I replaced the fill valve , and the bleeder valve. Brand new propane in the tank filled to brim for the next owner.
I serviced the original refrigerator, so it now works in all modes, 12v, 110v and propane see picture of the light inside the fridge, indicating that it works on propane mode . Both original ice trays are still there.
The stove burners work great ( see picture)
The sink faucet works great ( see picture )
I thoroughly cleaned the water tank and it was sanitized
The stove panel and lower refrigerator metal panel trim was removed and repainted along with brand new decals. These fade and get scratched up from age and use. It looks all brand new.
Has 2 brand new Interstate battery, the auxiliary battery is tucked up neatly under the driver seat as well as the battery kit.( see pictures) provides power to the fridge, radio, sink faucet and charges while the van is running.
I replaced both front seatbelts as these get older they do not retract well at all and plainly not good when they get caught up on the front doors when you close it.
I repainted all exterior door handles and all new door seals.
Front doors have new window seals
The front windshield is also brand new along with a new seal( when the van looks this good, you would not want to look through a pitted windshield.
Windshield wiper arms have been refinished and brand new Michelin wiper blades.
Windshield washer and windshield wipers works perfectly.
Windshield fluid has been replaced and topped off.
Stereo is a Pioneer am/fm/cd/bluetooth/USB port stereo with its own power toggle switch in case you want to listen to some tunes while the van is turned off, it is powered by the 2nd battery.
Brand new 12v outlet on the dash was replaced in favor of the old cigarette lighter, perfect for charging up your cell phone.
Brand new Pioneer front door speakers, rear speakers are 4 inch Alpine speakers.
I have never camped in it since the restoration. Everything is super clean for the next owner.
