For sale this incredibly unique old Chevy. Built and raced as a tribute to the legendary Smokey Yunick, this 1957 Chevy was run competitively on the vintage stock car circuit for a few years. It has a full cage, window net, modern front stub/suspension,disc brakes and fully adjustable suspension. It has provisions for weight jacking and coil overs. Its equipped with a very nice NASCAR style power steering set up, an alloy radiator, removable steering wheel and a Kirkey Race seat with harnesses. Full instrumentation, battery kill switch and push button start round out the race spec. It is a pretty good visual representative of the car Smokey ran back in the 50s. It is painted in Yunick's distinctive black and gold livery with some neat sponser decals. It has a five on five bolt pattern steel wheel set with vintage McCreary bias ply race tires. It also comes with a set of more modern NASCAR wheels and fat tires if the buyer would like them. As its a race car, there are no front side windows and the doors are welded shut. When I acquired this cool old Chevy, we thought it would be cool to try and make it somewhat street legal and drive it to the local Cars and Coffee once in a while. So-we installed lights front and rear(tail, brake and head), some lightweight race carpet and some basic(removable) carpeted trunk panels. It has a California title and is currently registered and insured for the street. To say that this car is an attention grabber would be an understatement! Everywhere its driven, it draws a crowd and the stories begin. It seems everyone has a memory of either a 57 Chevy or Smokey Yunick(or both).
It runs with a small block Chevy-of course(was told it is a 355), a BW four speed with Hurst linkage and a welded locker rear end. It has a cool, recessed exhaust system that exits out the side. There are a set of fantastic vintage Corvette valve covers with old school breathers. This is one wild old shoebox. So, can you hop in it and commute to work? Not really. You have to be able to climb in the windows, its fairly noisy, the suspension needs to be aligned for the street, the locker rear isn't happy on slow speed corners and while the motor is healthy(with no odd noises, knocks or smoke), it really needs a proper street tune. It always starts immediately though and sounds great. In short, as it sits its drivable and sort of street legal. Please don't expect to remove the race equipment and think you'll have the basis to restore a 57 Chevy. Much of the chassis and floor pans, body, etc are far removed from what left the GM plant back in the 50s. It does have a lot of new chrome(bumpers, lights, trim, etc) and certainly looks the part, but consider it a great start to a restomod shoebox, a unique track day car or even return it to the oval-your choice.
Whatever you decide, it will be the only one like it anywhere you take it.
