Up for sale is one very rare, nearly 100%, original condition XR7 M-Code Cougar. This car was 1 of only 108 with the sought after (1970) 351C 4V. This is the only year made with the factory 4 barrel intake, and the higher 11:1 compression ratio and cylinder heads with huge 2.19/1.71-inch valves. This engine mandated dual exhaust and calls for a minimum of 99 octane or higher. This M-Code Cat also has the very rare close ratio 4 speed. Less then 3% of all cougars built had a factory 4 speed!
You only have original once and here you have original drivetrain, body, paint, glass, interior and vinyl roof! Almost every part is original with exception of normal wear and tear consumable items such as; tires, tune up parts, fluids, thermostat, some hoses, fuel pump and power steering.
She has less then 53,000 original miles. You will not find another like her.
The car has factory 10" drum brakes that work perfectly. It has the factory Competition Suspension package that only the "M" code cougar or its big brother "the 428 CJ Eliminator" would have as options. The car starts right up on choke with one tap of the gas pedal. It drives very well, steers great, brakes perfect, No pulling or swaying. The car is a BLAST to drive, puts a smile on your face even after you get out.
Has deluxe interior, vinyl roof, console, clock, tachometer and a few more rarities
Over all condition:
Exterior: NO-RUST, Original paint has some light scuffs & scratches. Has paint chips here and there, most on the passenger door (see pic), one small ding on front of hood nose and one on front valance corner (pass side), both are hard to see but seeable at right angle. Roof in excellent condition, no tears, no bubbles. Has the original premium wheels that the 1st owner had with the car with aftermarket plastic caps that have some cracks.
Interior: All original, drivers seat has a few rips, passenger seat has very minor cracks, dash pad has hair line cracks, still beautiful! The carpet, headliner, door panels rear seat all are in excellent original condition. Some light condition issues on console and glove box door. The gauges are in excellent condition, all work as should except the clock. All dome lights, window felts and rubber seals are good condition.
Drivetrain: Runs and drives great. The close-ratio 4spd is tight and smooth. The clutch pedal is further out than brake pedal and chatters a bit when the clutch pedal is almost all the way out, might need adjusted or replaced at some point. No leaks, 3.25 ratio 9" rear-end is smooth with no noises. The original Autolite 4 barrel carburetor is clean inside and out, but still may need a rebuild at some point due sitting more often then not. Sometimes, it will start to load-up on cold starts and when on choke and caused some light smoke at tailpipe. Clears up when driven. Has BF Goodrich TA radials with less then 200 miles on them, no cracking or leaks and all recently balanced & new valve stems.
Other: Comes with the original cougar floor mats, spare rim & tire.
