1985 Volkswagen Transporter Double Cab “Doka” received an engine and drivetrain transplant from a 1989 Vanagon. It benefits from the larger displacement 2.1 liter water boxer motor and automatic transmission. We also used the front seats from the same Vanagon and the front grill and lights. Fitted the Doka with H&R springs (lowered), H&R Spacer Adapters, Porsche Boxster S “Turbo Twist” 18 inch Wheels and a Porsche 924 Steering Wheel and Hub.
The Doka has been a fair weather third car and only comes out on nice days. It is always garaged. I have enjoyed it for over a year and have receipts for over $3,800 getting it sorted.
Here’s what I've done in my ownership in the last 2 years:
Front & Rear TerraWagen Fender Flares
Hillside Imports – Full Service, Tune, New Catalytic Converter, Coolant Junction Pipe, Full Brake Service and Brake Fluid Flush
New OEM brake pedal pad $16.00
New Window Cranks $22.48
Hillside Imports – New Idle Stabilizer Valve Replacement, Oil Change and Trans Flush and Filters $605.50
New set of Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 225/40-ZR18 for the front and 275/35-ZR18 for the rears (installed at 135,230 miles and I have only put 1,425 miles on them)
GoWesty – Installed Stainless Steel Tail Pipe and Gasket Set
Hillside Imports – Oil Change and Installation of K&N Air Filter
Clean clear title in hand.
The Good:
Runs and drives great and all the mechanicals are sorted – really fun to drive!
Handles incredibly well with the H&R springs and brand new Hankook Tires
Thumbs up everywhere you go
All original glass
The stance is just right
The Bad:
It's not a show car...the paintjob is a ten-footer, there is body filler and the body is a bit wavy, but hey it’s a truck and doesn’t matter if you get a rock chip
Windshield has two rock chips (no cracks)
Does not have a spare tire
