You are viewing my 1971 Ford Custom, ex-Federal Government vehicle, with the “P” code 429 cubic inch PI (Police Interceptor) engine, heavy-duty C-6 three-speed automatic transmission, and a 3.00:1 “Traction-Lok” rear differential. To my knowledge I am the fourth owner of this vehicle but I cannot confirm this, nor can I confirm the actual mileage. Previous owner did have the engine professionally rebuilt in 2013 so on that front this Interceptor is as good as new.

The 429 PI factory ratings were 370 horsepower and 480 ft. lbs torque and was believed to be underrated at the time. The factory compression ratio is 11.3:1 so then as now this engine requires premium gasoline. For the rebuild we went all new CJ-spec internals, including forged pistons, new camshaft (hydraulic), new valves and springs, etc., the crank and rods were reconditioned. The engine is at the back end of its 750 mile break-in period so, although you are going to want to figure out what it can do, another 250 miles of "easy going" is recommended.

Other features of this Ford PI include air conditioning (not operating - needs a hose which it will get if sold) massive, heavy-duty power disc (front)/drum (rear) brakes, and of course the "Police Package" consisting of heavy duty suspension parts, including stabilizer bars, springs, and control arms, and heavy duty brakes, and cooling system, and the “Certified” 140-mph police speedometer. The tires are older vintage but 235/70-15 Goodyear Eagle GT-4 high performance radials in excellent condition including an NOS spare.

All electrical systems (e.g.,, lights, gauges, wipers but not the cigarette lighter) work fine. The steering wheel has cracks and horn is not operating. The dash panel is original and displays wear consistent with its age, but the seats (except rear uprignt section) have been redone in the original vinyl. The original rubber floor is intact. The heaadliner is an NOS replacement and the dome light cover is missing. The original AM radio is intact and operates (reception is poor). Driver door rear armrest is missing (I lost it). The body side moldings were removed long ago (holes welded shut) but it was a common part and can be located even now if you want to put them back on.

The vehicle was professionally refinished in its original “Medium Green Metallic” exterior color in base/clear. The frame, floor pans, and trunk pan are original and unmolested. The chrome and stainless trim is in good to excellent condition, and overall is consistent with a vehicle of this age. The bumpers are original in excellent driver-quality condition. Many trim parts .. the grille, taillights for example ...were NOS replacements. The vehicle comes with a driver side spot-light (not shown and will not be electrically connected)..when this spotlight was added is not known.

This 1971 Ford Custom is a genuine police Interceptor. The legendary 429-PI engine is one of the best police powertrains Ford ever produced And only 6 of these Ford Customs PI’s were ever made so you also know that nobody is likely going to pull up next to you at a stoplight with another one just like it, or even close to it ...unless its Burt Reynolds showing up in his movie car. I hope it finds a good home and remains intact and preserved for the ages.
