NICE! Rare 1997 E31 BMW 840 Ci Black/Black w/ RARE "BMW Individual" Option. Runs & Drives Great!
+This Last year 1997 is the best most desirable E31 w/ M62 & 5Spd Steptronic -- Lighter and better handling than the 850Ci --and fewer maintenance issues & costs.
Very beautiful and very RARE, loaded and in great condition. Great Glossy Black on Excellent soft crack-free leather.
The 4.4 has 282 Horsepower, a tad more torque (420 NM) without the cylinder lining & fuel issues the 4.0 L had. The 5spd Steptronic Sport Mode (w/ manual +/- shifting by taping the selector fwd. or back), is a big improvement over the Pre '96 4spd Auto (no Sport).
This is the same proven durable and high powered V8 Engine & Trans. found in the ~500K+ BMW 540i, X5 and 740i models still on the road --so, parts are easy to find New or Used at reasonable costs. I have resources for the buyer CD Repair manual & info of the E31.
--This 840Ci Runs Excellently, doesn't smoke or studder/miss..
+ Just replaced Ignition Switch (OE BMW)
+ New Front tie-rod links & Right side upper & lower control arms & alignment, tires balanced June '16
+ New horns, recent new coolant hoses, spark plugs, air filter, cleaned MAF, and Oil/Filter change Mobil-1 10w40 approx. 2000 miles ago.
+ Has newer cross-drilled front brake rotors & pads installed --work great with firm quiet straight stops.
+At 78,100 the Valve covers/gaskets & intake manifold gaskets were replaced, and New Radiator, and New Catalytic Converter were installed. -
--Starts instantly with a roar and runs very smooth, solid & quiet at speed, shifts perfectly. Heat/AC work very well, Heated & Pwr. Seats work well, but driver's seat has no Up/down --maybe switch, doesn't bother me.
All glass is excellent rear-tint, windows work great, sunroof works well back & fwd., but tilt function leaves inner lining board down.
- The Front windows will open/drop 1/3 inch when door opens & then close/rise back up to seal when door closes -as intended. If front windows are down -at 80MPH they will rise automatically for aerodynamics -as designed.
- Aftermarket Pioneer Stereo CD/phone/AUX player & speakers all work well. CD Changer disconnected. Lighter/Charger socket works, Headlights pop up/retract well, fogs, signals, reverse, tail & brake lights all work, interior lights all work, wipers, CC & Trip computer work...
I've gone through the engine bay to tighten/check all hose fittings, clean/check electrical fittings, both batteries' 4 connections are tight & free of corrosion. Fluids are freshly topped up. --I like things to be secure & work correctly . . .
Also has fold down rear seats for flat package platform, and a Ski-bag pass-through from the trunk. Still has working flashlight in glove-box, full spare tire, and full tool kit under trunk-lid.
The Wheels are Genuine BMW MSport 18inch Split spokes --prior owner painted black --have several touched up chips, but still nice. Tires are 245/40 ZR18 in Front, 275/40 ZR18 in Rear. All with ~50% remaining tread.
The 8 Series cars are considered the most beautiful BMWs designed since the 60s, the pillar-less open Luxury GT Coupe was the leader in it's class, (Aprox. $85,000) and top -rated -among All Top Luxury Brands. The 850 was the first car to be fully designed using a computer, and the first to use a LAN --reducing wiring by 50%, also has speed-sensitive steering & 100 other advancements you can read about.
The Values of these 840/850s are going up quickly, as collectors realize the bang-for-buck, Performance/Luxury/Style/Rarity -- a top-rated GT. --The late 80s M3coupes are selling for $25K-$50K Now, and are more common. These 840Ci BMWs are Very Rare, gaining a following, and appeal to the high-end enthusiast.
This Excellent 840Ci has been very well taken care of during it's 141,000 miles, as you can see in the excellent Interior and Exterior appearance.
There are no tears or holes in the leather seats, or door panels, or headliner, some minor smudges. No cracks in the dash.
The rear bumper has some touched up chip marks & is 1/4 inch off kilter. Very Minor. (est. $350 to sand/repaint) I just had the front bumper & spoiler repainted due to several chips & scratches from idiots bumping into it.
Then, recently a bike handlebars fell on hood -a couple small dents were flattened from backside, smoothed/sprayed black -but a Hand-sized area needs re-sanding, prime/paint/wetsand/buff... (or full hood repaint or Wrap estimate $250-$500) Car Priced accordingly. See last photo I'll send more photos upon request
-Otherwise 95% of the body is excellent, smooth, dent-free and shiny as photos show. Of course, as an 18 year old car there are some chips & flaws, minor cosmetic projects & cracked/missing plastic clips/plugs --hardly noticeable/no problem.
I drove this 840Ci here from Dallas in 3 days, no-hiccups, very smooth, powerful and comfortable GT road car --which handles great, straight & tight at over 100 MPH.
This Shiny Sweet Rare 840Ci gets tons of looks and thumbs up by people everywhere, saying it's beautiful, classy, sexy, wicked, badass, or sleek. . . I was recently asked if it was New.. it looks that good. The modern sporty design, and the excellent glossy black paint with very few flaws makes it look ¼ it's age.
If you're looking for an 8-series --yes, you can find a cheaper one --with plenty of mechanical needs, 200K+ miles or paint & leather needs, etc., or a more expensive one you won't want to drive or ding up. . .a V-12 will be much more $$ in maintenance & less nimble. This is a Driver --ready to Enjoy - the version and color combo to get.
