Here is a gorgeous, complete and original 1970 Westfalia pop-top camper. This is an exceptionally clean and mechanically sound California bus, ready to load up and drive anywhere. It is becoming exceedingly hard to find an early Bay Window Westfalia this complete and well maintained.
Mechanicals:
The bus starts first turn of the key every-time, hot or cold. The engine is a 1600+ Dual Port unit and has excellent, smooth power with a positive air-cooled exhaust note. The transmission was recently gone through and completely rebuilt less than 2,000 miles ago and is like new. Brakes as well as emergency brake recently adjusted and or rebuilt as needed. The steering is tight and light to the touch. Lights all work, as does stereo system with CD player. This VW runs like a top.
Exterior:
The paintwork has a great shine and is has been kept waxed and garaged. Done in its original and rare (for US export) color of Montana Red, I would rate the exterior an 8.5/10 some fine cracks, very few road chips with little to no rust present and evidence of older rust repair. Just about everything needed to make this bus the perfect camper has been done. Many new window and door seals installed, this bus is a complete turn-key driver.
Interior:
Beautiful redone upholstery up front with black original style basket-weave inlay, truly needs nothing. Z-bed and jump seat done in durable black to match, super clean and extremely comfortable with updated foam on the z-bed and a custom spare tire-well cover piece for camping. New pop-top canvas installed. The birch paneling is gorgeous, as is the vinyl flooring. This Westy is complete with all of its original cabinetry including the often-missing icebox/sink unit. Additionally, included with this bus is its original canvas front 'child's, cot' or luggage stow over the front seats and cargo net in the rear, both in excellent original condition.
