I have a 1958 Desoto Firesweep 2 door hardtop for sale. Car is factory black roof with a black stripe down the side. Rest of the car was Sandstone yellow. Willow green interior. 350 Wedge with a pushbutton transmission.
Exterior: body not all beat up. Has some slight rust bubbling along bottom rocker panels and lower passenger quarter. Mirrors were moved to doors from fenders. Had dummy spot lights on it and were removed. Holes are still there and were not filled. Chrome along drip rail is missing. Desoto emblems above license plate are missing. Hood emblem is missing. Everything else is there. Firesweep emblems for quarter panels were removed but I have them. Paint is ok but needs attention. Windshield needs replaced from bubbling and smoking along the edges. Back glass perfect!! Side glass good too. Chrome is there but some pitting. Can be cleaned up for cruising or restored. Bumpers are nice but have a small dent on both of them. All the lights work and look cool lit up. Doors, hood and trunk lid open and shut perfectly. There are some small areas of surface rust, only a few areas. One along trim on quarter panels, other area is near trunk lid lower corners.
Drivetrain: motor ran and drove when parked. Previous owner said it wouldn't start. He thought it was bad points so he replaced them. Believe he got timing off when he replaced them. Motor turns over smoothly but not fast enough to fire. Replaced solenoid but still not turning over any faster. Car rolls and stops good. Has a disc brake conversion on the front. Appears to be a Ford set up. Drum brakes on rear. Gas tank is bad and needs replaced or repaired. He let it set too long with bad gas in it. Has dual exhaust on it. Under the hood appears to be complete.
Interior: trunk is solid with no rust. Floor pans have been patched some time ago. Appears to be a solid patch and will definitely hold up if not restoring. Previous owner took seats out and dyed rear seat red. Did not get to front seat. He attempted to dye the door panels red as well. Interior is a complete restore. Headliner, carpet, seat covers and door panels need replaced. SMS Auto Fabrics in Oregon carry the original material for everything inside the car. My local upholsterer said $3500 for materials and labor to restore interior. Top of dash needs repainted when windshield gets replaced. Everything is there for the interior and comes with the car.
I have the original owners manual, service manual and some various items that go with the car.
