R2 Avanti, I bought this car from the original owner last year. Car has never been hit and has all original paint, trim, glass. motor and transmission have never been out of car. The mileage is correct- 40K
If you are looking for an original R2 that hasn't been monkeyed with, this is the one.
The bad part: He told me the car became "temperamental" and hard to start when it rained, so she bought another car and parked Avanti in the driveway under a cover in 1995. When I bought it, it had not been driven for 20 years. The paint, while original is checked on roof, hood, (see pictures). I got car running and back on the road, I rebuilt the original carb, fuel pump and Prestolite alternator. Installed new Avanti water pump and a correct exhaust with the right tips. I also replaced all the usual parts: plugs, hoses, bulbs, belts, fluids etc. The only non-stock items on the car are for safety, I replaced the entire brake system (lines, hoses, booster) and installed Turner front disk brakes which use a newer GM caliper, dual master cylinder as well. I put in a drop-in electronic ignition module. The wheels are 7" wide with radial tires, but original 5" wide steel wheels and hubcaps are included. The only cosmetic thing I have done is replace the carpet. I have been driving the car for the last 6 months and it has been reliable, I would feel comfortable driving car anywhere, but it is 50+ years old, so your view may be different.
Frame is solid but..OF COURSE IT NEEDS HOG TROUGHS.
